Dave Bock

I was born in Colorado and after 20 years on the move around the world with the US Army, I retired from military service and went to work for Lockheed Martin Aerospace.   After spending 17 years with Martin as a Logistic Engineer/manager, in 1996  my wife Berta and I decided to retire for the second and final time and move back to our home town.  By that time we had raised our family of 6 kids (a blended family) and they were out creating their own families which now stands at 14 grandkids and two great grandkids.  We built a house on an acreage just outside of Longmont, Colorado and settled in for retirement.  They say that life begins after retirement and we found ourselves busier than ever before by volunteering.  We soon found ourselves overwhelmed by our own commitments such as working with the local police department writing tickets for handicap parking violators.

In 2000, we helped a friend move to Washington and we found Lynden.  Less than a year later we had sold our house and were building a new one in Lynden.  In 2001 I found and joined the Lions Club.  I have been Secretary (100% award), Tail Twister, Lion Tamer, Director, and Vice President.  I will become President in the year immediately following my Zone Chairman term.  I was the Lions chairperson on the Million Smiles Playground and have co-chaired the Veterans Day celebration, Relay for Life project and other projects.  I have received the Lion of the Year award and have been honored with a Melvin Jones Fellowship, a Gordon Smith Fellowship as well as several other awards.  I am also a graduate of the NW Leadership Institute course.

Although the Lions seem to be my main focus, church and community are also part of my life.  I am the chairman for our church Property Committee and have several building and rentals for which I am responsible.  I am also the handyman/fix it guy for New Way Ministries, a halfway house for abused women and children.  For the past several years I have driven the “Lynden Shoe”  in many parades thru out Washington and as far as Oregon.  Berta is the “Dutch Lady” who rides up on top.
