Marion Quinlan
ZC 19H5
Marion was born in Vancouver, B.C. and had many childhood
adventures as her family moved around our beautiful province before
settling in the Chilliwack area, near Bridal Falls, commonly referred to
by the locals as disorganized territory. Marion is one of those unique
souls who are a second generation British Columbian.
Marion is a graduate of Chilliwack Secondary School.
After completing her first year of university she took a temporary job
with BC Tel (now Telus). After 30 years the company discovered she was
sill there and decided it was time she left. That’s her story and she’s
sticking to it. She actually took early retirement.
Marion spent 23 of her 30 years with the company as a
manager in the Customer Service and Inside Sales area. When competition
came to the industry she took on the challenge of being a member of the
start-up team for the new business division. Marion remained involved
with the business and major accounts side of the business until her
retirement in 1992.
Marion is an avid volunteer and has served on several
community boards over the years including that of the Hyack Festival
Association. She still volunteers in their office; you will find her
there every Tuesday morning.
One of the founding members of The Royal City Volunteers,
an ad hoc committee of Community Volunteer Connections, Marion is
involved with the planning of the Royal City Volunteer Festival which
has just completed it’s sixth event.
Music of all types, with an emphasis on jazz and the
classics, reading, travel and gourmet cooking and container gardening
are a few of Marion’s interests outside of Lions.
Marion became a member of the New Westminster Lions in
1998. She has served as secretary, membership director as well as two
terms as president.
She has also served as Zone secretary and recently as the
Women’s Membership and Development Chair for District 19H.
The New Westminster Lions have twice honoured her with
Lion of the Year. She has also earned 100% Secretary and 100% President
awards.
The community has also recognized her efforts, twice
nominating her for Citizen of the Year. She has also earned the Hyack
Festival association Volunteer of the Year Award.
Marion knows serving, as Zone Chair H5 2008-09 will make
for a challenging and exciting year, filled with new adventures and new
friends.
